Terms of Use
Effective September 11, 2026
These terms apply to the Unbound website and to Unbound software distributed with them.
Acceptance and eligibility
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Unbound software distributed with or expressly referring to these terms, you agree to be bound by them, including the mandatory supervision requirements, assumption of risk, release of claims, and limitation of liability below.
If you do not agree to these terms in full, including the exclusion of liability to the maximum extent permitted by law, do not download, install, access, or use Unbound. If you have already installed it, stop using it and uninstall it.
You must be legally able to accept these terms. If you act for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept them for that organization.
Software license
Your right to install and use Unbound comes from the software license supplied with your download. These terms do not replace that license. Do not copy, modify, distribute, sublicense, or use the software outside the rights granted by the license or applicable law.
Third-party components remain subject to their own license terms. The project charges no fee for local or self-hosted use. Providers, infrastructure vendors, and connected services may still charge you.
Your deployment and accounts
You are responsible for your installation, infrastructure, provider keys, accounts, permissions, backups, security, and compliance with law and service terms. Connect only accounts and systems you have permission to use. Protect credentials and revoke access when you no longer need it.
Mandatory supervision and responsibility for bots
Unbound is a software harness that connects models you select and configure to tools and computer environments. The Unbound project does not provide AI models or operate an AI inference service for you. Inference is performed by the third-party providers you choose or by models you run locally or on infrastructure you control. References to "bots" mean the agents you configure through this harness, powered by those models.
You must supervise the bots you configure or operate through Unbound. You are responsible for reviewing their instructions, limiting their permissions, monitoring their activity, and intervening or stopping them when necessary. This obligation applies to scheduled, background, and automated tasks. Do not run bots if you cannot provide appropriate supervision. Review outputs and consequential actions before relying on them or permitting them to affect people, accounts, systems, or data.
The models you select can generate inaccurate outputs, disregard instructions, or request unintended or unauthorized tool actions. Unbound's tooling and safeguards do not guarantee that model outputs or resulting actions are correct, safe, or authorized. Safeguards, approval prompts, and isolation mechanisms may fail. You knowingly assume the risks of your deployment and are solely responsible for your choice of models and providers, the tasks, instructions, permissions, credentials, integrations, and access you provide, and for resulting bot actions, omissions, outputs, and consequences, including actions you did not intend or individually approve. Enabling automation does not transfer responsibility to Unbound's creator, developers, or maintainers.
Unbound is not designed for emergencies, safety-critical control, or high-impact decisions without appropriate human review. The project does not undertake to supervise, verify, or prevent actions taken through your deployment.
Third-party services and acceptable use
Unbound can connect to services we do not control. We are not responsible for their availability, content, security, terms, charges, or handling of data.
You must follow the Acceptable Use Policy and may not use Unbound to break the law, violate another person's rights, bypass security controls, or break the terms of a connected service.
Availability
Unbound may change, contain errors, or stop being maintained. Features, compatibility, documentation, and access can change without a guaranteed support period. You can stop using Unbound at any time. We may restrict access to websites or repositories we control, but that does not give us remote control over your local deployment.
Disclaimer, release, and limitation of liability
The term "Unbound Parties" means the Unbound project and its creator, owners, developers, maintainers, contributors, and distributors, including each person in their individual capacity.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Unbound is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, security, availability, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. No representation is made that bots will follow instructions, act safely, or produce correct results. You use Unbound entirely at your own risk.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Unbound Parties shall have no liability whatsoever, and their total aggregate monetary liability shall be zero (US$0), for any claims, losses, costs, expenses, or damages arising out of or relating to Unbound, including its download or installation and your use, misuse, or inability to use it. This exclusion includes direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, and punitive damages; loss or disclosure of data; loss of profits, revenue, or opportunities; business interruption; security incidents; account restrictions; charges or transactions; and actions, omissions, or outputs of bots or connected services. It applies under any theory of liability, including contract, tort (including ordinary negligence), strict liability, and breach of warranty, even if an Unbound Party was advised of the possibility of harm or a remedy fails of its essential purpose.
To the same extent permitted by law, you release the Unbound Parties from claims covered by this exclusion. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold them harmless from third-party claims, liabilities, losses, and reasonable legal expenses arising from your configuration or operation of bots, your misuse of Unbound, or your violation of these terms, applicable law, or another person's rights.
These provisions are a material condition of making Unbound available without a fee for local or self-hosted use and survive cessation of use. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or restricts rights that applicable law does not permit to be excluded or restricted. If an exclusion, release, or limitation cannot be enforced, it applies only to the maximum extent lawful, and the remaining provisions continue to apply. This reservation preserves mandatory legal rights; it does not voluntarily assume any liability.
Updates
Updated terms will show a revised date. Where the law permits, using Unbound after an update means you accept the new terms. Send questions about these terms to [email protected].
